RELAXED LIVING – Introduction Class
August 30th - Springfield Hospital Library
6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Come and learn why the "relaxation response”, our normal state of physiological function, is critical for restoring optimal physical, mental and emotional health, and how it protects us from premature aging and other stress-induced health problems. This session introduces the five week course to learn different techniques for inducing states of relaxation as tools to optimize health by improving one's response to stress. RELAXED LIVING –
Upcoming program for September 2010
This experiential program provides participants with practical knowledge about how to use mindbody practices to improve their responses to real and perceived stressors in their daily lives, and to give them skills necessary to engage in these activities on their own. Drawn from the ancient natural medicine of India, called Ayurveda, and Yoga, Ayurveda’s sister science of mindbody integration, the course is designed for people of all ages and abilities, regardless of prior experience with mindbody medicine. Instruction will be individualized according to the needs and capabilities of attendees. Wear lose clothing, and bring a towel and a small blanket. More details to follow. Keeping Winter Bugs At Bay, Becky Howe, RN, Infection Control Practitioner
The Healthy Aging Series is held at the Springfield Senior Center, Springfield, VT. All presentations are FREE and are from 10 am - 11 am. All are welcome to attend to hear the presentation and to ask questions. No registration is necessary.
September 15 - Healthy Education Classes - FREE
Springfield Hospital Meeting House, 9:30 am - 12 noon
Meets weekly on Wednesday, for six weeks, beginning September 15th. If you are living with chronic conditions such as asthma, heart disease, lung disease, diabetes, emphysema, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, or chronic pain, this program is for you! Caregivers are also encouraged to attend. This six-week program is full of fun activities and useful tools that will help you learn to live a healthier life:
• techniques to deal with frustration, fatigue, pain, and isolation
• exercise for strength, flexibility, and endurance
• appropriate use of medications
• talking with family, friends, and health professionals so they understand your needs
• useful tips to improve nutrition
• how to evaluate new health treatments
Class dates 9/15, 9/22, 9/29, 10/6, 10/13, 10/20

This class is designed to prepare women and their partners for the labor and birth process. Parents are encouraged to sign up for this class 2-3 months in advance of their due date. Bring 2 pillows and your lunch. Cost for this class is $81.20. VT Medicaid and most private insurances will pay this fee. Classes are taught by a certified childbirth educator, 9 am - 5 pm. To register, call Sandy at 885-7686.
September 23 - Sibling Class
Sibling class is for families expecting a new baby. Education is offered on how to adapt to a new baby in the family. The class includes discussion of infant behaviors, a video, and a ChildBirth Center tour. Have your child bring a stuffed toy or a doll to weigh. Classes are held from 5 - 6 pm. To register, call Sandy at 885-7686.
September 28 - Breastfeeding Education Class
Meet Springfield Hospital’s Board Certified Lactation Consultant, Sally Pennington, RN, IBCLC. Learn about breastfeeding facts, early feeding cues, positioning, and watch an educational video about breastfeeding. This class offers time for questions and answers in a group setting, raffles, and take home information. Classes are held from 5 - 6:30 pm. To register, call Sandy at 885-7686
