New Art Exhbit by Mikki McCrillis on Display at Springfield Hospital
Posted on 12/15/2008
The current exhibit at Springfield Hospital's gallery space features paintings by Mikki McCrillis. The exhibit features a wide variety of subject matter and techniques.
“My subject matter has always been fleeting and experimental,” says McCrillis. She explains that her subject matter has moved from varied subject matter to a common theme since 2006. “Even though I remain truthful to being experimental and trying new things,” she says, “the subject has had all the arrows pointing back to my divorce, and what led up to it, and how I'm dealing with it.”
McCrillis is a self-taught artist who has been creating acrylic paintings since the year 2000. She has exhibited mainly in the Open Wall shows at the Gallery at the Vault where she is also a volunteer. Her web site, malamikpaintings.blogspot.com, has a wide selection of her works.
“As you view my work,” McCrillis tells us, “I am hoping you become inspired to find a way to celebrate being an individual and loving everything about yourself... to stand up for your own happiness.”
The current exhibit runs through January 31. The exhibit is located on Level B of the main hospital building, between the main waiting room and the Emergency Department.
Ongoing exhibits in this hospital gallery are provided in cooperation with VAULT (Visual Arts Using Local Talent). For more information, call Larry Kraft, Springfield Hospital Foundation, at 885-7644.
