SMCS Celebrating Community Health Center Week With Free Clinics, Health Screenings, and Community Education
Posted on 8/3/2010
Springfield Medical Care Systems (SMCS) will be celebrating National Community Health Center Week (August 8th – 14th) by offering a series of free clinic days and educational events throughout the week.
Beginning on Monday, August 9th, the series of events will include a free clinic day in Bellows Falls, Springfield, Charlestown, and Ludlow for anyone seeking an introductory visit who is not already an SMCS patient. An open house at Rockingham Medical Group in Bellows Falls, VT, and two free community education sessions covering arthritis and pre-diabetes are also planned and open to the public.
“The theme of the national week-long celebration is “Celebrating America’s Health Centers—Turning the Vision into Reality,” and we are opening our doors to share information about what makes a community health center special in terms of quality, accessibility, and affordability,” comments Cheryl Sanctuary, Chief of Physician Practice Operations for SMCS.
Sanctuary continues, SMCS has consistently earned some of the highest scores in Vermont for quality of care. Whether our community needs routine health care, including mental health services, walk-in medical care, or prompt attention for a serious illness or emergency care, SMCS offers an integrated approach to care and places strong emphasis on patient/provider relationships, with our goal being to keep people healthy for as long as possible, and to achieve the best possible health outcomes for our patients and our region.”
This series of events is designed to invite the public to learn more about how SMCS is improving access to quality health care, and making financial assistance available for care and prescription drugs based on a sliding fee scale. Through a series of free introductory clinic visits, an open house, and educational events including question and answer forums, community health center week offers a unique opportunity to learn more about the SMCS health system and meet some of the people involved in providing daily care.
