(L to R) Melissa Post (L) and Mary Perry, Chairperson of Springfield Medical Care Systems' Development Committee (R), present the 2011 Dr. E. Sherburne Lovell Health Career Award to Jessica Hale of Green Mountain High School, Chester, VT.
Springfield, VT - Jessica Hale, class of 2011 from Green Mountain High School in Chester, is the first recipient of the Dr. E. Sherburne Lovell Health Career Award. The award is funded by the proceeds of the Apple Blossom Cotillion, a project of the Foundation Office of Springfield Medical Care Systems.
The award was presented by Melissa Post, daughter of Dr. Lovell, long time physician at Springfield Hospital. In a letter from Melissa and her sister, Elizabeth David, they stated “While he was a man who never sought recognition for his service in the medical field or in the community, we know he would be honored to have this award named in his memory. We hope recipients of the award will share the same sense of wonder and fascination with the world of medicine that he did.”
Jessica will be attending the Exercise and Movement Program at the University Vermont with a goal of completing the graduate program in physical therapy.
Jessica became interested in physical therapy when she attended the Southern Vermont Area Health Education Center (AHEC) MedQuest and Advanced MedQuest health career exploration experiences. “Exercise and helping people combines the two things I like to do the most,” Jessica says, “Physical therapy is perfect for me.”
To be eligible for the award, students must live in one of the towns served by Springfield Medical Care Systems and attend AHEC’s MedQuest and Advanced MedQuest programs.
