Springfield Hospital Foundation Awards Scholarships
Posted on 6/25/2009

Ten area high school seniors received health care career scholarships from Springfield Hospital Foundation.

Recipients of $2,000 scholarships are: Jenna MacDonald, Fall Mountain Regional High School, to attend Syracuse University for pre medical studies, and Ariel Twombley, Springfield High School, for nursing.

Recipients of $1,000 scholarships are: Kirsten Beaudry, Fall Mountain, to attend Dartmouth College for medical research; Britta Brennan, Bellows Falls High School, to attend Utica College for nursing; Molly Chisamore, Bellows Falls, to attend Simmons College for nursing; Joseph Dexter, Green Mountain High School, to attend Princeton University for medical research, Natalie Emery, Springfield, to attend Southern Vermont College for nursing; Claire Hammond, Springfield, to attend University of Massachusetts for nursing; Dan Kendall, Springfield, to attend University of Vermont for pre medical; Amelia Maeksomporn, Springfield, to attend Colby Sawyer College, for nursing.

These annual scholarships are funded with the proceeds of the Apple Blossom Cotillion and are awarded by a committee of hospital board members and staff.

According to Larry Kraft, director of the Springfield Hospital Foundation, which presents both the Cotillion and the scholarships, the purpose of these scholarships is to help young people who are pursuing a career in health care to meet their college costs.  “It is a way,” Kraft says, “to give something directly to young people and to support health care as a career choice.’
